In every social uprising, the state responds with some level of repressive violence in order to maintain “normality.” In the case of Chile, this meant the disappearance, torture, and death of dozens of people at the hands of the state in just a couple of weeks following October 18, 2019. Faced with this, one of the immediate responses was the implementation of self-defense measure at protests. This in turn was repressed: some 300 people have lost their eyes to the police, and over 2,000 comrades have been arrested.
International Tattoo Flash Day is an initiative that was brought forth by organizations and tattoo artists in Santiago, Chile and Atlanta, GA, USA. Its goals are to spur revolt, validate legitimate self-defense, and most importantly, show solidarity with imprisoned comrades and their families. This is a call to join this international campaign on February 15, so that we can coordinate to reach and tattoo as many people as possible. The idea is to channel all money raised into support for the comrades kidnapped by the state
